Kuru Kuru Kururin [GBA – Beta]

A launch title for the GBA in Japan and Europe, Kuru Kuru Kururin went through a few cosmetic changes between its beta and final versions. The most obvious difference involves the life meter, which lost its sun-like appearance and was moved to the lower-left corner, with a vertical three-heart indicator and a picture of Kururin which reacted accordingly to the in-game action. Kururin himself lost his canary-like appearance in favour of his final blue-feathered, wide-beaked look. The time indicator moved to the upper-left and was given a black background, topped with the player’s record for the current stage.

One screenshot shows the Jungle-2 stage, but with a grassy mushroom background which doesn’t appear in the finished game. Another shows an Ocean stage with several differences from the final version: the treasure chest appears on the same background as an oyster and contains a peeping pair of eyes instead of treasure, and the playfield is transparent whereas all final-version stages have, at most, partially see-through playfields. The stage doesn’t appear to be from any of the final Ocean levels.

Command & Destroy [GBA – Cancelled]

Pining for a Game Boy Advance version of Command and Conquer? There was an upcoming RTS game, cheekily titled Command and Destroy Advance, but it was cancelled. We say cheekily titled, as the game looked rather similar to Westwood’s classic Command and Conquer. Inspiration or plagarism? The game took place in 2018, in a scenario where Earth is stripped of all natural resources. You could have play as three different sides: Humans, Aliens or Worms (big worms, mind). There were 50 different units to build and control, and multiplayer skirmishes. Sadly, the developers never found a publisher..

It seems that this game was somehow released on the DS, but it appears that it wasn’t carried in stores and was only sold by mail order.

Rick Dangerous Advance [GBA – Cancelled]

Rick Dangerous advance was cancelled because Spoutnick Team received a mail announcing that the copyrights holders of “Rick Dangerous” doesn’t want to sell their license for “internal reasons”. So the team cannot legally continue to work on a game which is not their property and they decided to stop developing a non releasable project.

Chronos Twin [GBA – Cancelled]

Chronos Twins is an action-adventure released for the DS in 2007. The game show a different perspective on time travel than most games. Instead of revisiting an area in two different times, both screens show the same setting during two eras as gamers explore the land with a present-day hero. Chronos Twins was originally planned for release for GBA, but after the Nintendo DS rise the game has been ported to it. In 2004, the GBA version was cancelled due to the publisher’s fear to legal disputes with Capcom, after graphics rips were discovered on Capcom BBS and other Internet forums violating Capcom’s Copyrights. Three Wonders, Marvel Vs Capcom and Magic Sword graphics are still visible on the released videos in the major gaming websites. Mytrhi [GBA – Cancelled]

Mythri was an upcoming American-developed, Japanese-style RPG for the Game Boy Advance. Originally for the Game Boy Color, development switched gears after the GBA was released. The game has been in development by Team XKalibur since around 2000. Message from Keith Martineau, Co-Owner of Team XKalibur: “Mythri was officially cancelled at the end of 2005. Team XKalibur has been disbanded, due to lack of resources. Most of our team is now scattered across the games industry working for various companies. Co-Owner Tomm Hulett and myself may one day make a new studio and attempt Mythri again, having learned many lessons from our first attempt at launching an independent games studio. So hopefully everyone who supported us in the early going will get to experience Mythri someday. – [info from Wikipedia]

A playable prototype of the game was released online by a former member of the team in September 2016.
