Professional Sportscar Racing [PSX/PC – Beta?]

Update: thanks to Anonymous we found out that this game was released as “Sportscar GT” by Electronic Arts, that bought out Virgin Interactive. The screens below could still be different from the final game, so let us know if you see any differences!

In 1997 / 1998 Virgin Interactive were working on a new racing game for the original Playstation and PC know as “Professional Sportscar Racing” but it seems that the project was never released. The game was based on the license for the pro organization of the same name, a competition that was sponsored by the same Virgin Interactive.  Maybe Virgin had some problems with the PSR  license and the development could have been stopped. In the original press release we can read:

Fast driving, intensely competitive Grand Touring racing simulation game. For the player’s driving pleasure, all of the dream cars racing in the 1998 season of the Professional SportsCar championship will be authentically re-created including the internationally famous Panoz Esperante.

Gekido [N-Gage – Cancelled]

Gekido is a series of beat ’em up games developed by Naps Team, released for the Playstation and GameBoy Advance, with a Gekido PSP and a Gekido GameBoy Color that were never finished for some reasons. It seems that they planned an N-Gage chapter too, as we can read in an old IGN article, but even this version was canned. The 2D sprites were really good and it could have been one of the best looking games for the N-Gage, but it possible that they had to stop the development because of the low sales of the Nokia console / phone.

Jet Moto (Jet Rider) [PSX – Beta]

Jet Moto (aka Jet Rider in Europe) is a futuristic racing game developed by SingleTrac and published in 1996 by Sony for the PlayStation and PC. As we can read on Wikipedia, the developers chose to create jet motos instead of wheeled motorcycles due to concerns over polygon limitations.

Developers originally intended for players to be permanently out of a race when falling far off a track, however they came to realize that it was not fun for players “to be forced to go slow or suffer an instant defeat. Also, a set of courses set in a stadium were dropped as SingleTrac felt it did not fit the theme of the game.

In the gallery below you can see a series of screenshots from a Jet Moto beta, about 40% complete, with different models and backgrounds. Check the video from the final version for a comparison!

Theseis (Thesis) [Cancelled – Xbox 360, PS3, PC]

Theseis (AKA Thesis) is an action adventure that was in development by greek team Track7 Games, to be published by Ubisoft (?) for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. The project was started in early 2005, but after a couple of years of active promotion, Theseis vanished without traces and we can assume that it will never be released. It’s possible that they did not find a publisher interested in their project.

In the original press release we can read more about the game’s unseen features:

-A gripping storyline that places you in a Greece full of marvel, danger and back-stage scheming, just beneath the surface of everyday life.

– Play with both Andronicos and Pheve as they race against men and monsters to uncover the secret of Theseis.

– Frantic action and intriguing puzzles. Challenge both speed and wit in every corner of this dark fantasy world.

– Colorful characters and localities, ranging from neo-classical buildings to the grim depths of Hades.

– Innovative customized new power graphic engine, built specially to portray the full glory of Theseis’ stunning environments.

– Dynamic original music score.

SwitchDeath / Deathmatch [Jaguar – Cancelled?]

Switch Death AKA Deathmatch is a 2D sidescrolling platform / action game that was in development for the Jaguar, but we cannot find any info on its release, so we assume that the project was cancelled before being finished. From the screenshot (found by Celine in CD Consoles issue #8) and videos preserved in the gallery below  it seems that in SwitchDeath players were going to take the role of some sort of bug with a gun. Could this game have been released under a different name? If you recognize the character, please let us know!

Abbibi recognized the game, that was also known as “Death Watch”, and linked us to a video of it that you can watch below. Anthony found a better version of the same video, from E3 1995.
