BIONICLE: Legend of Mata Nui [PC – Unreleased]

Bionicle: Legend of Mata Nui is a cancelled PC game based on the Lego Bionicle franchise, that was in development at the Lego Software division. The project was officially cancelled in 2001, because of some quality issues and too many delays. It seems that a playable beta demo does exist somewhere out there.

Thanks to Lord Deathsaur for the contribution! You can find some more infos on the game at the Mask of Destiy website.

NBA Hangtime [Arcade – Beta]

NBA Hangtime is a basketball video game developed by Midway and released in arcades in 1996. Home versions followed for Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Sega Genesis, Super NES, and Windows. Hangtime was the third basketball game by the original development team behind the NBA Jam series. [Infos from Wikipedia]

My friend Sabin found a site with a few bits of beta stuff for NBA Hangtime. In these early screens we can notice no basketballs behind the team logos, backboard was breakable, a few players pics are different and maybe more…

Cyber Clash [3DO – Cancelled]

Cyber Clash is a cancelled action game that was in development by Crystal Dynamics for the 3DO. We would have play the role of a cyberspace hacker, to combat into virtual arenas with a tank-alike vehicles, in first person view. A 2 players coop mode was planned too and every vehicle available was able to morph into 2 different forms, with unique close and long-range weapons. A video preview of the game was even added in the “Sample This!3DO CD Demo, but in the end Cyber Clash was never released for unknown reasons.

Phear (Tetrisphear) [Jaguar – Unreleased]

Celine as make us to notice about a couple of interesting posts over at NFG Games (you can read them here and here) in which they talk about their visit to CES 1995, where they were able to play Phear.. the Jaguar game that later became  Tetrisphere for the Nintendo 64.

Tetrisphere is a variant on Tetris in which various shapes are shifted across a sphere and destroyed. The objective of the game changes depending on the mode, but generally depends on removing layers of shapes to reach the core of the sphere. [Infos from Wikipedia]

As NFG Games wrote in their posts, it seems that “Nintendo saw it running in Atari’s booth, walked over to the developer and offered $madcash for the rights to it”. A couple of pages from the original Jaguar’s Phear (aka Tetrisphear) brochure can also be see in there. Also Celine found a scan from EGM 98, in which we can see a Phear in-game screen from the early Jaguar version. Other screenshots could be admired in CdConsoles issue 4 and Game Fan issue 5-3.

Thanks to Celine for the contribution!
