Pop’n Land [Sega Mega CD – Cancelled]

Pop’n Land is a cancelled side scrolling action game for the Sega Mega CD probably developed by Takeru ( as you can read on GDRI ) and to be published by Takeru’s publishing label Sur De Wave. The game added a RPG flavour to its gameplay by letting players to costumize their hero. In fact you could have assigned 16 different choices for the head, body and weapon allowing 4,096 different combinations, some useful others totally worthless. Pop’n Land had 15 cute and colorful stages, each with a unique Boss. The game was never released for unknown reasons.

Not everything was lost, because a Pop’n Land music track (“Pleasant Companions”) composed by Yoshitsugu Yokoyama and arranged by Issei Asaoka is included in Super Mega Drive Fan – Mega-CD Super Music Collection Vol.1.

Wicked Surfing [GBC – Cancelled]

Wicked Surfing is a cancelled sport game that was in development in 1999 / 2000 by RUNANDGUN! / Cave Barn and it would have been published by Interplay for the GameBoy Color. As we can read from a short preview on IGN, in the game you would have been able to use 5 playable characters to do various surf-tricks in 2 different modes: Thrash Mode (timed competition for points) and Contest Mode (tournament against other surfers). The team that was working on Wicked Surfing was small (1 programmer, 1 artist and 1 musician), but the graphic was really good for a GameBoy Color, with an isometric view and a nice palette. Sadly Interplay was in some economic issues at the time (in 2001 it was acquired by Titus Interactive) and they decided to never pay Runandgun! to finish the game, even if it was almost complete.

Thanks a lot to Jeremy for his help to preserve more screens of their lost game!

Mega Man Legends 3 [Cancelled – 3DS]

Mega Man Legends 3 (aka Rockman DASH 3 in Japan) is a cancelled action game that was in development by Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS. The game was announced in July 2010 and it was going to be created with the help of the fans, thanks to the MML3 Developer Room website:

Yes, the Developer Room, or as it’s more popularly known, the “Devroom” is a place where people interested in the upcoming Mega Man Legends 3 title for 3DS can convene to exchange ideas on the game’s development. We hold monthly Devroom events where members can submit their ideas for content, some of which will be selected by the game’s development team to actually be implemented in the game.

A playable Mega Man Legends 3 prototype was going to be released with the launch of the 3DS eShop download service, to let players to test the game and give even more feedbacks about how to develope it. Sadly, something went wrong and on the 18th july 2011, Mega Man Legends 3 was officially cancelled:

Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely.

The prototype was never released on the 3DS eShop, but we hope that in the future it could be at least leaked somehow.

TwinBee Miracle [PSX – Cancelled]

TwinBee Miracle is a cancelled RPG that was in development for the original Playstation. TwinBee Miracle was supposed to be the first “next-gen” iteration of the well-known, at least in Japan, Konami shoot’em up series. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the game apart that is was a 2d turn-based jrpg and that it was scheduled to be released on Psx in 1996 for the 10th year anniversary of TwinBee. A TwinBee RPG got out in japan in 1998, but it was a completely different game.

A video of Twinbee Miracle appeared in a 1995 V-jump tape and Arron was able to get a copy of it and to upload the footage on Youtube!
