Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever [XBOX/PS2 – Cancelled]

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever is a cancelled FPS that was in development in 2002 by Zombie Studios and it would have been published by Bam! Entertainment for the Playstation 2 and later for the Xbox.  The game was based on a 2002 action film with the same name, starring Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu, often listed among the worst movies ever made. The project was officially cancelled in 2003, probably because of the low rates of the film and some quality problems of the game.

The GBA version of Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever was developed by Crawfish Interactive and released in 2002.

Cops [X360/PS3 – Cancelled]

Cops: The Police Experience is a cancelled action game that was in development at Pyro Studios from 2003 (early concepts and prototype) to 2008, that would have been  published for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. As we can read on Anait Games, in december 2008 the studio laid off 30 employees just before the xmas holiday and the Cops project was officially canned. With the cancellation of Cops, Pyro Studios was then able to concentrated their resources on the “Planet 51” game, based on the the animated film created by Illion Studios and planned to be published by Sega  in winter 2009.

Another rumored cancelled Pyro project was known as “InZero” but it’s currently unknown if the 2 projects were somewhat related.

Beyond Zero Tolerance [MD/G – Cancelled]

Beyond Zero Tolerance (or Zero Tolerance 2) is a FPS developed by Technopop for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis. It was meant to be a sequel to Zero Tolerance, but it was never finished. Both games have been deemed by the (now defunct) developer to be publicly distributable as freeware. [Info from Wikipedia] You can download the playable beta of the game at Technopop memorial site. Huge props to the developers for sharing this piece of gaming history with the community!

Rock [PC – Cancelled]

Rock is a space combat sim / mech sim / FPS hybrid that was in development in 1999 / 2000 by Singletrack for PC, but later cancelled because the studio was closed. The team planned to combine 3 genres into a single game, to let the player a lot of freedom in how to resolve the missions. It was an ambitious project, as we can read from a preview published in Computer Gaming World magazine (thanks to Roushimsx on the HG101 Forum):

Imagine a game where you can jump into a tarfighter, dogfight our way to a martian plain, hop out, toss a grenade in a Mech to kill the pilot so you can claim the assault robot for yourself, rampage across a warzone in your new weapons platform and finally jump out and enter a building, killing some fuards before you plat explosives to level it – all of this without any load screens to stall the action.

Cooperative online multiplayer was also planned. After Singletrack closed down, the Rock team ended up moving on to Incognito Entertainment (later purchased by Sony) and started to work on Warhawk for the PS3. You can feel that some of the concepts from Rock were implemented into Warhack.
