Gex 4 [PS2 – Cancelled]

Gex was a platformer game series, developed by Crystal Dynamics, that details the adventures of a gecko named Gex. In this page you can see a couple of concept arts from the cancelled Gex 4, a cancelled project that was probably in development for the PS2. The series followed Gex the gecko. A lazy, tv crazy young man who after inhering a large fortune from his late uncle purchases the largest tv in the world.

Upon eating a fly which was actually a metallic transmitter, he is pulled into the digital world by his soon to be arch nemesis RezWhile. Not much is known about this sequel in terms of plot or overall any information. The last media ever released in the Gex franchise was a book in 2000.

The Diabolical Adventures of Tobu [PSX – Cancelled]

The Diabolical Adventures of Tobu is a cancelled flight-based action game that was in development by 989 Studios for the original Playstation. As we can read in a preview from Game Pro 111 and EGM issue 109 (thanks to Celine for the scans!), the game was set in a medieval asian world, where the young winged hero, Tobu, had to rescue his uncle from the vile emperor, Nee Hithol, and his minions.

While the gameplay could have been similar to other platform / action games, the interesting part was the 360-degree freedom of flying in those stylish 3D worlds, to fight enemies, collect power ups and search for secrets and hidden areas. From what we can see in the few screenshots released, Tobu looks somehow similar to another cancelled game, Dead Phoenix for the GameCube and as the Capcom’s title, it could be compared to Kid Icarus too. Sadly the project was never finished for unknown reasons.

Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex [PS2 – Beta]

Crash Bandicoot – Wrath of Cortex for the PS2 was a proposed sequel for the Crash Bandicoot series, the ones following… Crash Bandicoot. On his way to stop Neo Cortex from taking over the world! Granted that is what he is up to at the time… There seems to have a lot of changes between the beta and the final version, with removed levels, enemies and more differences here and there.

Also, below you can notice a target render video created by Traveller’s Tales that was used as a pitch to Universal Interactive for a new Crash game, before the project was eventually greenlit and became Wrath of Cortex.

Bam [PC / X360? – Prototype]

Before Ensemble Studios was closed, they worked on serveral prototype games, such as Nova, Sorcerer, Wrench and Phoenix, an RTS which featured humans fighting aliens (which later evolved into Halo Wars). Another protype was known as  “Bam” which Ensemble describes as a “Ratchet & Clank-Style Platformer”. As seen on various images posted by the company’s employees , in the game you would have played as Sprocket and the levels had a cartoony look to them.

Unreleased english translation of Aigina’s Prophecy (NES) has been found!

Originally released in Japan as Aigiina no Yogen: Balubalouk no Densetsu Yori for the Famicom, Aigina’s Prophecy is a platform with RPG elements that was supposed to be published for the NES in USA in 1988 by Vic Tokai.  As we can read on Strategy Wiki:

The goal of the game is to kill enough enemies to make progress through six dungeons, each of which contains a hidden portion of the Aura Star which has been broken into five pieces. The final dungeon contains the kidnapped princess who knows how to restore the Aura Star, which will allow you to complete the game. While most exits from a room become visible when enough enemies are defeated, the entrances to the rooms which contain pieces of the star are hidden from sight until the player jumps three times in the correct place to make the entrance appear.

Some days ago Tootai was able to buy the USA prototype, that was found by an user of the RacketBoy Forum, and he confirms that Aigina’s Prophecy seems fully translated in english, but somehow it was never officially released. The previous owner has put a video of the game in his Youtube Channel, so we can have a look at it
